‘Howling Black Soul’ initially started with Dario and Ed, who shared an obsession for bands such as ‘Led Zeppelin’, ‘Free’, ‘The Cream’, ‘Jimi Hendrix’, other late 60’s/early 70’s dirt and the dark art of the blues. They would have jam sessions at Dario’s flat but nothing more. Simon Whale (bass), who also shared a fixation for those same influences, had thrown a party of biblical proportions, the kind of party that inspires you to start a band, and Dario, recovering the next morning, knew he had to get the 3 of them together! More jam sessions ensued and they soon realised they needed a drummer with the same obsession. After responding to an ad on the internet, Simon Clarke (drums) auditioned with the band and within 5 minutes of that audition, they knew Simon was appropriately crazy and would fit right in. Simon was consequently asked to join the band and the line up of ‘Howling Black Soul’ was complete. There sound is steeped in blues; however, they have a modern twist with contemporary influences such as; ‘Kasabian’, ‘White Stripes’, ‘The Black Keys’, offering up a new spin on the classic genre that is Rock-blues.ards
