FRIDAY ALWAYS STARTS EARLY AT THE BULL
To The Bull! …early on Friday evening for the finest 6:45 weekend session in all of Sunny Colch. Actually it’s the only 6:45 weekend session, but the description fits, all the same.
The idea behind these weekend starters is to welcome in the post-work crowd ahead of the post-pub collapse some six hours later. The Weekend Starts Here! But most certainly not in a wall-to-wall vomiting sort of way. Slowly, slowly, you need to unwind and reflect on the working week, and look ahead for all that is to come.
Which at precisely 6:45 on Friday was what took place, with a soothing start to the wall-to-wall vomiting with Snippet, aka Johnno Casson of Sunny Colch. Mr Snippet is a current fave of The Chronic, ever since he penned an ode to Britain’s Oldest Recorded that managed to work in a rhyme for Layer De La Haye.
This is Essex, this is The Bull. And rather beautiful it was too. Punters drifted in as the set developed. Work woes were soon forgotten as Snippet sung of tales of Bee Stings and Kate Bush covers. We’ll [slowly] drink to that.
Chin chin.
It was also something of first for Mr Snippet, now trading under the plural tag.
“WE are Snippet,”
…announced the Dandy Man with the Candy Man looks as he welcomed local keyboard player Cara Burns to the stage at The Bull. There was even a cameo for Mrs Snippet, adding some backing vocals and helping to grow that one man sound into something a little more substantial.
He’ll have the Royal Philharmonic on stage at The Arts Centre, come his support gig there on 31st May.
Johnno is a natural performer and was well placed for the 6:45 slot. What is needed are some heartfelt welcomes, some funny tales and a genuine belief that the end of the working week can be celebrated, despite the woes of the past five days.
New songs were slipped into the set. Whatever Happened to the Working Class is a BBC sitcom waiting to be commissioned; Window Shopping meanwhile just worked, with the backdrop of Sunny Colch commuters drifting behind the front window of The Bull and going about the everyday business of… life.
Which is a little profound, and probably slightly too deep for an artist that tells lovely tales about living a lovely life here in Sunny Colch.
6:45 soon became 7:30, and the weekend No Man’s Land was over. Snippet had serenaded a small corner of the town gently into their Friday evening.
The weekend starts here.

CLOCKWISE
CLOCKWISE from Canada
Fresh from their success and the International Pop Overthrow in Liverpool & London
Clockwise is a band, and the four members coalesce to produce the sum of its parts. Claude writes the words and melodies that inspire contributions from Brent, James and Jason which ultimately comprise the band’s sound and it is this sound that defines Clockwise. This sound doesn’t defy description; on the contrary it invokes it. To offer an analogy for the uninitiated, to quote Andy Partridge of XTC from the song of the same name; “This is Pop!”
With a subliminal nod to the song-writing books and hooks of past and present pop-rock purveyors, ‘Clockwise’ proliferates the three-minute pop song with their unique brand of power-pop.
Doors open at 8.30, and they will be live from 9.00

LIVE @ 6.45…THE SEA CREATURES
Spring 2010: John and Del got a bit bored of rock, not that bored – a bit bored. We got together on an acoustic and an electric, liked the sound, wrote a few tunes and had a laugh. The tunes came out all folk/country – unusual, but we liked it. We seeked out a violinist (why not?) and we found Sarah. She joined, we all liked it.
Chris & Sarah departed and were replaced by Sean King on Drums & Penny Snelling on Violin, a few lo key gigs resulted in us supporting Miles Hunt and Erica Nockalls from The WONDER STUFFChris and Sarah departed the band and were replaced by Sean King on drums and Penny Snelling on violin. MEDICINE HAT
Medicine hat formed in the early 90′s.Members include Kiwi singer Mark Jackson, Musician/producer Steve Loveday, talented guitarist Mark Wright and Dynamite rythym section Loll Dalziel on the Bass and Gary Bowler on the Drums.
Johnny Walker of BBC radio fame coined the phrase’ Cowpunk’ to reflect the bands Hard drivin’ Rock/country blend.
Having released 4 albums and a live DVD in Europe and Canada, Medicine hat’s catalogue can still deliver a raucous, intense, emotive show, to please Hard ridin’ Harley riders, all the way to London indie rockers.
The bands experience in touring different countries[UK, Austria, France, Italy, Spain and Canada] is extensive, and, recording sessions with Albert Lee, and supports with Alvin Lee, Georgia satellites and Uriah heep have all contributed to their fanbase.
A passion to escape the overcast, brickwalled supressive landscape of London to the wide open, freedom loving existence portrayed in Great American Rock and Country music has culminated in a unique hybrid that translates to their fans around the globe, and all who ride with them on their Musical/spiritual journey.
So grab a cold, cold beer, put your hat on and take a trip to MEDICINE HAT
Doors open at 8.30pm, all starts at 9.30pm
